TAPP Coalition will give 3 Press conferences and one side event at COP29 in Baku, the UN Climate Conference. 

You can watch all events online (UNFCCC facilitated service) or be welcome in person if you will be at the conference (blue zone; press conference room Natavan).

TAPP Coalition: Analysing the COP28 Food Declaration (160 countries NDC's) and the new FAO SOFA report 2024 on Hidden Food Costs, on fiscal actions and GHG-emission pricing. 

More info: link. Speaker TAPP Coalition: Director Jeroom Remmers. He will give an update of countries and blocks active on GHG emission pricing in food systems and studies on it in and for the FAO SOFA report, including meat tax propopals from TAPP Coalition.

TAPP Coalition: Making the Polluter Pay – Using Agri-Food Emission Pricing to Finance the Loss & Damage Fund

Contents: During the press-conference the vital declaration of the TAPP Coalition and the Africa Climate Action Initiative will be explained. Joining us during the press conference will be a representative of the Ministry of Environment of Nigeria, to urge other countries to join their ministry in signing our declaration as well as explaining why it is crucial for climate action. Willem Branten will touch on the global effects on meat consumption and uncover the list of signatories of our declaration, more than 100 NGOs, as well as 3 countries are behind this call to action. Lastly, Trinto Mugangu from ACAI will touch on the moral obligation that the OECD and China have to take action against the climate crisis and how GHG-emission pricing can help finance the Loss and Damage Fund.

Friday, November 15th. 3:00PM - 4:30PM. Food Tank @ UNFCCC Side Event Room 2 – COP29 Blue Zone. “Agri-Food Finance & Enabling Policies to Drive Climate Action” in partnership with TAPP Coalition, Climate Citizen International, Jeremy Coller Foundation and FAIRR.

Session 1: “Changing Government Financial Policies for a Paris-Aligned Agri-Food Sector.” Speakers include: Helena Wright, Director of Policy, FAIRR, Willem Branten, Public Affairs, TAPP Coalition, Trinto Mugangu, COP29 Climate Advisor, African Climate Action Initiative and more moderated by Danielle Nierenberg, President, Food Tank.

Session 2: “Good Food Finance to Accelerate Cooperative Climate Action.” Speakers include: Mike Terungwa, CCI / GFFN, Megan Waters, Senior Policy Advisor, FAIRR Initiative and more moderated by Danielle Nierenberg, President, Food Tank.

Combined description: At COP28, 150+ committed to reorient agricultural support towards more sustainable practices. This event brings together policymakers, investors and NGOs to explore how countries are working to systematically change money flows within the agri-food sector (subsidies, investments, taxes and Agri-ETS). In Part 1: Changing Government Financial Policies for a Paris-Aligned Agri-Food Sector, the TAPP Coalition and FAIRR Initiative will host a panel examining subsidies and Pricing policies.
